COVER TO COVER: Real Love by The Beatles
While I was studying how CSS stylesheets work, I put my iTunes on shuffle. The fifth track it played was an old and random acoustic recording of me singing a Beatles track. One of my favorite Lennon song called “Real Love”.
“Real Love” is a song written by the English rock musician John Lennon. Lennon made six takes of the song in 1979 and 1980 with “Real Life”, a different song that merged with “Real Love”. The song was ignored until 1988 when the sixth take was used on the documentary soundtrack Imagine: John Lennon.
“Real Love” was subsequently reworked by the three remaining members of The Beatles (Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr) in early 1995, an approach also used for another incomplete Lennon track, “Free as a Bird”. “Real Love” was released as a Beatles single in 1996 in the United Kingdom, United States and many other countries; it was the opening track on the Beatles’ Anthology 2 album. It is the last “new” credited Beatles song to originate and be included on an album. To date, it is the last single by the group to become a Top 40 hit in the US. source: Wikipedia
Recorded in my living room on June 11, 2010 while rehearsing songs for a wedding I was invited to play. Highlight of this track is my mother’s voice somewhere in the middle of the track. Can’t get any live and raw than that. :)
Real Love – The Beatles (Acoustic Cover)
All my little plans and schemes,
Lost like some forgotten dreams.
Seems that all I really was doing
Was waitin’ for you.
Just like little girls and boys,
Playing with their little toys.
Seems like all we really were doing
Was waitin’ for love.
Don’t need to be alone,
No need to be alone.
It’s real love, it’s real,
Yes it’s real love, it’s real.
From this moment on I know,
Exactly where my life will go.
Seems that all I really was doing
Was waitin’ for love.
Don’t need to be afraid,
No need to be afraid.
It’s real love, it’s real,
Yes it’s real love, it’s real.
Thought I’d been in love before,
But in my heart I wanted more.
Seems like all I really was doing
Was waitin’ for you.
Don’t to be alone,
No need to be alone.
It’s real love, it’s real,
It’s real love, it’s real,
Yes, it’s real love, it’s real,
It’s real love, it’s real,
Yes it’s real love…

damn! this last beatle song is filled with real love. great job clem! john’s not dead.
Great info! Am a Beatle fan myself. If it wasn’t for them (and my twin brother who first learned the guitar via the JINGLE: BEATLES Collection Songbook, all self-taught btw) I would’nt have discovered the joys of being a musician. Long Live Lennon and the BEATLES!
I was so excited to listen to your cover of this song. This is one of my favorite songs from the Anthology album. Your cover is a sweet tribute to The Beatles. ♥
cool, cool cover. ive always thought of you as the musical genius behind orange and lemons. now you have your own band, it’s great that people get to see how great you are. keep it up clem!
